50 players Auburn fans should know: Will this WR finally get his shot in 2026?
EDITORS NOTE: Between now and the unofficial kickoff to the football preseason at SEC Media Days on July 20, AL.com is featuring one Auburn football player per day.
We continue the series today with wide receiver Bryce Cain Bryce Cain, wide receiver 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, Mobile, Alabama Just two summers ago, Bryce Cain was part of the exciting wide receiver class that many believed would finally fix Auburns offensive woes.
Along with Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson and Malcolm Simmons, Cain helped make up the group of blue-chip in-state receivers known as the Freeze Four.
They highlighted an impressive signing class by then head coach Hugh Freeze that ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Two years later, Cain is the only player from the Freeze Four still at Auburn, and Freeze is no longer the head coach.
Now, going into his third year of college football, Cain, a once-touted recruit, hopes to finally make an impact for the Tigers.
The Mobile native struggled to see the field in 2024 and 2025.
Opportunities came sporadically on special teams and against lesser opposition, but he never became a consistent target at receiver.
Cain has caught just six passes for 58 yards in his career so far and has filled in as a punt and kick returner at times as well.
He logged a 31-yard kick return against South Alabama last season, an example of the explosiveness that made him such an exciting prospect at Baker High School.
After a coaching change and reshaping of the Tigers roster, Cain is one of the few receivers from the 2025 roster still at Auburn.
With two years of SEC experience under his belt, 2026 could be the chance for him to carve out a bigger role.
Despite his experience, that still wont be easy.
Golesh brought five receivers with him from South Florida, who all bring experience in Golesh and offensive coordinator Joel Gordons system.
Former USF receiver Christian Neptune brings a similar playstyle to Cain and true freshman DeShawn Spencer could also compete with him for snaps.
Listed at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, Cain is best utilized in the slot.
Hes explosive with the ball in his hands, which could make him a fit for Golesh and Gordons fast-paced offense.
Special teams is another area where Cain could carve out a role.
He was the backup punt returner behind Simmons last season, and that job will likely go to either Cain, Neptune or Spencer.
Cain still has to compete to earn a spot on the field this season, but the Mobile native feels like its finally his time to show what hes capable of.
This is my year.
I cant wait to get on that field, Cain said during spring practice.
Im gonna show everybody what Im about.
Coming Sunday: We feature Auburns All-American linebacker, Xavier Atkins.
