The Tennessee Volunteers thought they were getting a pass-rushing force when they landed former Penn State defensive end Chaz Coleman.

But just months after the five-star edge-rusher committed to UT out of the transfer portal, it was announced that Coleman is no longer with the team, according to On3s Pete Nakos.

Coleman was reportedly medically disqualified after missing summer workouts and part of the teams spring practice as rumors about his future with the program began to swirl.

Chris Hummer of CBS Sports reported that though he wont play next season, Coleman is still a part of the Vols program.

Though Coleman has been medically disqualified from the football program, the Vols have kept Coleman on scholarship, per a source, in an effort to support him, Hummer wrote.

Some questioned if hed ever step on the field for the Vols after he deleted his Instagram account.

No details have been revealed publicly about Colemans personal situation, but Hummer reported Coleman has been dealing with some actual physical ailments.

Sources around the program described a more complicated picture: physical symptoms, personal strain, homesickness and the pressure that came with Coleman's rapid rise from a fringe four-star recruit to a top-10 transfer and overnight millionaire, Hummer wrote.

Sources also pointed to lingering vertigo symptoms connected to a head injury suffered at an unknown point during his time at Penn State.

In an interview with 104.5 The Zone last month, former Tennessee assistant coach Doug Matthews revealed that Coleman wasnt with the team anymore.

[Hes] no longer with the program, Matthews said.

I think its probably pretty mutual, but he was dismissed this past week after I think about as good an effort as coach Heupel and this staff could have [made] to keep him there.

It didnt work out.

Those things happen.

This marks the second straight offseason the Vols have dealt with issues regarding a high-profile player.

Just last offseason, Tennessee lost former five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava following an NIL dispute.

Iamaleava ended up transferring to UCLA.
