Bills linked to intriguing former All-Pro, but the proposed trade would not solve Buffalo’s most pressing issue on offense

Alvin Kamara is way past his prime, and he would just be a situational backup without giving the much-needed explosive element.

The Buffalo Bills was second in success rate and third in EPA/play last season.

The offense was materially good, and it obviously went through Josh Allens performances and Joe Brady success as a play-caller.

But anyone would agree that the offense could still be better and more reliable with more explosive pieces.

However, a recent trade conversation wouldnt solve that issue.

Fox Sports Greg Auman made a list of top 5 remaining trade candidates and their top landing spots.

He connected New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara to the Bills.

Auman explained why Kamara may be on the move, and why the Bills could be the perfect team to acquire him in a trade ahead of the season.

Alvin Kamara just turned 30, and with the New Orleans Saints signing Travis Etienne in free agency, he wont be the Saints featured back for the first time in his career.

He only played 11 games last year, but averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per carry he averaged at least 4.5 yards in each of his first four seasons, but has averaged below that in each of his last five.

Hes always been a strong pass-catching back, so his value to a new team might be as a complementary back for third downs and in the passing game.

New Orleans takes on $18 million in dead money (split over two years) if they cut him and $15 million if they trade him.

Theyve moved on from key veterans from those final Drew Brees playoff teams in the last year, and Kamara makes sense as the next one to go.

Kamara has maintained that he wants to finish his career with the Saints, so the threat of him retiring rather than reporting to a new team might lessen what the Saints can get.

POTENTIAL LANDING SPOT: Buffalo Bills, where former longtime Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael is now the offensive coordinator.

Greg Auman While Kamara has played under Joe Brady and Pete Carmichael as offensive minds in New Orleans, hes certainly not at that level anymore.

Last year, the running back had career-lows in yards after contact per attempt (2.56), yards per route run (0.78), yardage accumulated on designed runs (471), and missed tackles forced (19).

The Bills were already (fairly) criticized for their investment in a 29-year-old receiver in DJ Moore, but paying to acquire a 30-year-old running back would be something else.

And while Kamara shouldnt cost nearly as much in terms of trade compensation, hes set to make $11.5 million in 2026.

Thats real money for his position.

Kamara once was one of the most electric and explosive running backs in football.

But hes clearly declining now.

The investment for a player who wouldnt add anything to what James Cook and Ty Johnson offer at this point is a suboptimal usage of resources to say the least.
