Guardians might make trade because of Brayan Rocchio, Travis Bazzana

The Cleveland Guardians have spent recent years loading up on middle infield prospects.

It has often felt like their top prospect hitters are just a mix of shortstops and second basemen.

They've really focused on those up-the-middle guys.

It has meant that, for years, it's been unclear which of the many youngsters were tabbed as the middle infield of the future.

There were so many options.

The Guardians may have settled on their pieces, though -- Brayan Rocchio is breaking out at shortstop, and Travis Bazzana appears to have secured second base.

That leaves some trade candidates among the guys still in the minor leagues, including shortstop Angel Genao.

MLB.com's Tim Stebbins sees Genao as a prime trade candidate to help the Guardians improve sometime before the deadline.

"Genao does not have a clear path to the Majors right now, which could make him a trade chip if the AL Central-leading Guardians want to make a big move at the Deadline," Stebbins writes.

"The 22-year-old (who's ranked as Cleveland's No.

2 prospect and No.

44 overall by MLB Pipeline) was promoted to Triple-A Columbus on May 4.

Hes a natural shortstop with experience playing second and third base.

But the Guardians' infield includes shortstop Brayan Rocchio (who's having a breakout season), second baseman Travis Bazzana (who has shined in his rookie campaign) and superstar third baseman Jose Ramirez." If other teams also view Genao as a top-50 prospect in the entire sport, then he could help fetch a big haul in a trade.

The Guardians always could use more hitting, and they actually have a few weak spots from a pitching perspective this season, too.

They won't rush to give up Genao.

They've developed him too well to send him away without a very obvious deal to take.

But it'll be worth considering his name when the Guardians pop up in rumors, because he's exactly the kind of player a rebuilding club might want..
