Joy that comes with youth, sports

Updated June 8, 2026, midnight 1 min read

Kids think that they can conquer the world.

Who is going to tell them that they cant? It will not be me...at least not intentionally.

Everyday at 11 a.m.

my cell phone gives me an alarm.

I quickly turn it off, but at this time I pray for my grandsons, daughters, and son-in-laws.

It is usually at a very busy time, but it makes me quieten my mind and put the nonsense out of my mind for just a little time.

I spoke with my oldest grandson this week about his future plans.

The youth of his mind showed.

He plans to go to college at Northark and live in the apartment at Valley Springs.

That apartment would be in our house.

While at Northark, he plans on playing basketball for the Pioneers.

Then he is going to transfer to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

There he is going to be a Razorback and play football.

He cant play basketball there because he is not tall enough.

I am not busting his bubble.

I see athletes all of the time and there is not a Division I athlete in our area in any sport.

However, I am not telling any kid that.

The last two weeks have been full of fun at North Arkansas College, University of Arkansas.

Or UA, Northark.

It is basketball camp week.

Kids from all over come to Pioneer Pavilion to see friends and play basketball.

The smiles are great.

The kids are always smiling from having pure fun.

There is no pressure on them.

They are just being kids.

The same goes with our little baseball teams where I serve as an assistant coach.

I yell to the kids about remembering to do things in the field, but our team is full of joy.

Our kids have fun in the coach pitch league.

My daughter, who is the head coach, was on vacation last week leaving me in charge of first and second grade boys while it is hailing at our game.

I could not be an elementary teacher.

I can only be happy for so long a night.

Sports bring joy.

Kids playing sports is very joyful and very entertaining to watch.
