This Day in History: Jackie Robinson becomes first Black major league player in MLB history
MEMPHIS, Tenn.
(WMC) - On this day in 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play in a major league baseball game in the modern era.
Robinson took the field for the Brooklyn dodgers at Ebbets field.
The Dodgers would defeat the Boston Braves in Robinsons first M-L-B game.
He would go on to win the inaugural rookie of the year award at the end of the season.
So if youre watching baseball today, youll see every player wearing Robinsons number 42.
