Report: Nets may use Cam Johnson in trade for another 2025 NBA Draft Lottery pick

The Brooklyn Nets have four first-round picks in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft and while that is an enviable amount of bites at the apple, their first pick is eighth overall.
With Brooklyn still in the early stages of its rebuild, there is the thought that they want to bring in as much young talent as possible and it sounds like they're thinking big."There is a sentiment around the league the Nets could look to land a second lottery pick by consolidating and packaging some combination of Johnson, those picks at the end of the first round and/or future draft capital," Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote when discussing forward Cam Johnson.
What makes this report interesting is that NBA insider Jake Fischer reported earlier this month that the Nets were regarded as a team that would try to move up in June's Draft. The reporting prior to the Draft suggests that Johnson may not be getting too comfortable heading into his fourth season in Brooklyn, assuming he is on the roster for the beginning of the regular season.
Johnson, 29, was the subject of many trade rumors last season after the Nets traded Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks last summer for a bevy of draft picks.Johnson is coming off his best season in his six-year NBA career after averaging 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 39.0% from three-point land.
However, despite the fact that Johnson seems to be improving under head coach Jordi Fernandez, Brooklyn still has to consider if someone like Johnson is more valuable to the franchise as a player or as a trade asset. It's unknown what kind of pick the Nets would be able to get by using Johnson, but if they were going to use their picks from this Draft, the 19th, 26th, and 27th overall picks, they may have to use everything other than No.
8 to move up into the Lottery.
Johnson has two years and $43 million left on his deal so any team acquiring him wouldn't need to a boatload of cap space to make the trade work. This article originally appeared on Nets Wire: Nets may use Cam Johnson in trade for another 2025 NBA Draft pick.
