The Yankees blew Sunday Night Baseball against the Mets open in the eighth inning with a Cody Bellinger grand slam.

But the RBI that gave the Bronx Bombers the lead came from journeyman Jorbit Vivas, and it came as part of a historic at bat.

The ending was a run-scoring fielder's choice, nothing incredible but a 3-2 lead in the eighth none the less.

Vivas got there in record fashion.

The run-scoring contact from Vivas came on the 11th pitch of the at bat.

That was the most pitches seen by a Yankees player in a plate appearance that gave the team the lead in the eighth inning or later since the pitch count tracking era began in 1988, according to Sports Reference's Katie Sharp .

Vivas outdid all of them on this accomplishment.

Vivas took strike one, fouled off three pitches, took three consecutive balls, fouled off three more and then pulled a grounder to Pete Alonso at first, who promptly threw the ball away.

The 24-year old Venezuelan was called up when Jazz Chisholm got hurt.

He had a .343 average in Triple-A this season.

This is his first tenure in MLB.

Vivas spent the first six seasons of his professional career in the Dodgers organization.

He joined the Yankees system for 2024, and spent 93 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting only .225.

But this season, Vivas caught fire, and it earned him a feel-good call-up to the majors.

Now, he has a unique piece of Yankees history.
