Backcourt solidified with conference player of the year's transfer to Indiana basketball

BLOOMINGTON Tayton Conerway, the reigning Sun Belt player of the year, will transfer to Indiana, providing a significant boost to Darian DeVries first backcourt in Bloomington.Conerway visited IU over the weekend before formalizing his commitment late Wednesday night.The Trojans leader last season in points (14.2), assists (4.8) and steals per game (2.9), Conerway played a central role in Troys run to the NCAA tournament.

He also averaged 4.6 rebounds per, playing more than 30 minutes per game, and he finished the Trojans first-round loss to Kentucky with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and four turnovers.Insider: Darian DeVries has first major recruiting win, meaning so much for IUShooting percentages suggest Conerways first job at the high-major level might be distribution, an area in which he excels.

He finished last season with a 36.8% assist rate, 20th nationally, and in Sun Belt play alone that number ballooned to an eye-popping (and conference-best) 44.6%.Conerway also finished with the nations third-best steal rate last season, per Ken Pomeroy, a testament to his defensive impact.

He joins DeVries roster as clear and present competition to start at point guard.

Conerway is Indianas sixth scholarship player for 2025-26, not counting Luke Goode, who filed a waiver for an extra season.
