Did you know that Tom Brady has a newsletter ? In this weeks March 24 edition, he broke his silence about what really went down to end his historic 20-season run with the New England Patriots.

The football icon, 47, started off describing what it was like as a now-broadcaster watching more than 200 free agents move teams.

And then he dove right in.

I was only involved in free agency once, at the tail-end of my career, he began, before admitting that it was different for him than most players because of his stature.

He continued, For me, it was a creeping decision that lived passively in the back of my mind for 2-3 years until March of 2020 when a whirlwind of a few days made me realize that a decision was coming sooner rather than later.

And then, the quarterbacks confession about his relationship with coaching legend Bill Belichick, who had taken the Patriots and Brady to six Super Bowl wins: After twenty years together, a natural tension had developed between where Coach Bellichick and I were headed in our careers, and where the Patriots were moving as a franchise.

It was the kind of tension that could only be resolved by some kind of split.

Brady ended up going to Tampa Bay to play with the Buccaneers, after assessing his life in his 40s with school-aged kids and 20 years worth of battle scars.

What I ended up with was a list of about twenty things that I then ranked and graded on a weighted scale from 1 to 3, he wrote.

He settled on Tampa.

In the aggregate, it graded out higher than New England along those twenty or so dimensions.

Its not much more complicated than that.
