Hoop Lady Flames win again

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.

All 14 Lady Flames saw action as the Lee University womens basketball team improved to 3-0 on the year with a convincing 70-52 victory over old NAIA rival Emmanuel University, inside Shaw Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Flames will play their first official home game on Monday (6:30 p.m.) when they host another former NCCAA and NAIA rival in Bryan College.

Lee will remain inside Walker Arena and face DII and SIAC opponent Kentucky State University on Saturday (2 p.m.).

LADY FLAMES 70 LADY LIONS 52 Lee started slowly and led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter Saturday.

However, the Lady Flames put 22 markers on the board in the second frame and took a 36-23 lead into the halftime break and never looked back.

The biggest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter when Lee went up by 23 points with 8:12 remaining and Coach Marty Rowe began to clear his bench.

Eight players saw double-minutes action and all eight scored in the contest.

Mallory Hampton tallied 14 points, making 5-of-9 shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Haylee Johnson followed with 11 markers and former Bradley Central all-stater Anna Muhonen tallied nine.

Addison Smith led the rebounding with six while Hampton and Johnson pulled down five apiece.

Haley Cameron grabbed four boards while Mia Hurst and Baylee Delbridge went to the glass for three apiece.

The Lady Flames outrebounded the Lions 33-24.

The hosts were led by Maddie Futch with eight rebounds.

They had 19 turnovers while Lee committed 18 floor mistakes.

The Lady Flames shot 45% from the field (26-of-58) and 39% from beyond the arc (11-of-28).

They were awarded eight free throws and made seven.

The Lions balanced scoring was paced by Naomi Roberts (13 points), Lizzie Teasley (12 points) and Abby Crawford (10 points).

The Lee defense was solid the entire afternoon and held Emmanuel to 33% shooting overall (17-of-51).

The Lions also made 33% of their shots from long range (7-of-21) and canned 11-of-17 free throws.

Lee outscored Emmanuel 22-19 in points off the bench and 19-16 in points off turnovers.

It is good to get a quality win against a well-coached team on the road," stated Coach Rowe.

"After seven days off, we were a little rusty in some areas but battled through it and did some good things on both ends.

"Getting our young players some quality time is always good this time of the year.

We look forward to being back home on Monday..
