NYY News: Soto “impressed” during meeting with Red Sox

MLB Trade Rumors | Steve Adams : The Juan Soto hot stove is heating up with the crown jewel free agent beginning to meet with teams this week.
One of the first teams he sat down with was the Red Sox , and while the two sides did not discuss years or dollars, Soto reportedly came away impressed by Bostons plans for the future including the wave of young talent they have at or on the doorstep of the majors.
The Blue Jays are also reportedly showing strong interest in Soto, and as for the Yankees , it is rumored that they would be comfortable exceeding 13 years as well as the $40 million AAV carried by Aaron Judge.
While its hard to gauge when Soto will sign, some are pointing to Shohei Ohtani signing in mid-December as a potential barometer.
MLB.com | Benjamin Hill : Minor League Baseball affiliates around the country hold special regionally-themed promotional nights where they temporarily change the team branding to something that represents the area.
Last season, it was the Double-A Somerset Patriots becoming the Jersey Diners with neon retro themed jerseys for a handful of games and this upcoming season it will be the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades who will become the Big Apples for three games over the summer.
In addition to the nod to the state nickname, the Hudson Valley region is the second-largest producer of apples in the country, a heritage that will be reflected in the teams jerseys and ballpark fare.
Newsweek | Matt Musico : While bringing back Juan Soto remains priority number one, the Yankees have more than one hole on the roster to address this winter.
The expected departures of Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo creates a vacuum on the right side of the infield, and the Yankees have an opportunity to address both first and second base in a potential blockbuster trade with the Cubs .
Cody Bellinger had a disappointing second season with the Cubs, and if the Northsiders are looking to get out from under the more than $30 million he is owed in 2025, they could to attach him to Nico Hoerner a top-three second baseman in MLB over the last three seasons to reduce the amount they would have to eat or increase the prospect return they could reap.
A trade of this magnitude would likely require two of the Yankees top prospects in Spencer Jones and Will Warren heading in the other direction.
Yahoo Sports | Ian Casselberry : Hey Now! In case you missed the news from the other day, the Yankees have found their replacement for John Sterling in the radio booth, prying Dave Sims away from the Mariners, for whom he has called television games for the last 17 seasons.
The 71-year-old Sims will join Suzyn Waldman in the booth, replacing Sterling following the latters retirement.
There was something of an in-season tryout for the job, Justin Shackil, Emmanuel Berbari, and Rickie Ricardo among those to call games in 2024, but its something of a coup for the Yankees to poach one of the most respected play-by-play voices in the game.
The move represents a homecoming for Sims, a Philadelphia native who began his media career as a reporter for the New York Daily News, spent time on WFAN, and maintained a New York home in the offseason.
