The Los Angeles Lakers won the inaugural NBA Cup during the 2023-25 campaign.

That means they are the defending Cup champions, which doesnt really mean much, especially when compared with an NBA title.

Nevertheless, winning the NBA Cup title for the second win in a row is a mission the Lakers are intent on accomplishing.

Regardless of how much prestige an NBA Cup title has, the motivation is there for Rui Hachimura and the Lakers to win it again because of a very practical reason.

Via Dan Woike of Yahoo Sports : We just want the money, forward Rui Hachimura said Wednesday with a chuckle.

I think thats the one thing ...

last year, we were very motivated.

We have the big prize.

The Los Angeles Lakers have their eyes on the prize Indeed, players on the NBA Cup title-winning team are going to see their bank accounts get fatter.

Each player will pocket a cool sum of $514,970 if their team wins the Cup.

When the Lakers won the NBA Cup last season, LA players got $500,000 each.

Hachimura is earning $17 million in salary in the 2024-25 season, but Cup money is surely nothing to scoff at.

Hachimura and the Lakers will open their Cup title defense this Friday night when they face off against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

On the season, the Lakers have a 7-4 record and will enter the meeting with the Spurs on a three-game win streak.
