FRANKTON Franktons girls basketball team was 17-8 last season, finishing fourth in the Central Indiana Conference behind the likes of Alexandria, Eastbrook and Blackford with a 5-2 conference record.

With conference losses against Alexandria and Eastbrook, coach Jeff Bates said the team is eying a better conference mark this year, knowing what itll take.

We are looking to better our standing in the conference over last season, he said.

We will have to play with some grit and determination to get back to the top of the conference.

It will be a tough task for Frankton, which is preparing for the new season after losing two of its star players in Emma Sperry and Amaya Collins.

Sperry led the Eagles in points per game (17.6), assists per game (3.4) and rebounds per game (8.5).

She now plays at Grace College while Collins, who averaged 15.4 points and 2.6 assists, took her talents to Indiana University-Columbus.

We have a very different team this season, as we lost two top-60 players to graduation, Bates said.

We know that we have to hold our opponents to a score in the 40s to get the results we want.

We have several players that are new that will be called upon to contribute.

Of the returning squad, seniors Ann Curtis, Sophia Hoagland and Emma Key will all be important in filling in the holes left by Sperry and Collins.

Behind Sperry and Collins, Key was Franktons highest scorer, averaging 7 points while Hoaglands 4.3 rebounds per game were second on last seasons roster.

Bates also highlighted junior Macy Curtis potential to add size on the inside and quality guard play from sophomore Laela Dietzer and junior Lainey Hamaker.

As we work the new players (into the lineup), we will be adjusting to their style, he said.

Frankton will get the chance to avenge its conference losses from last season in quick succession, facing Alexandria on Dec.

6 and Eastbrook on Dec.
