NYY News: The King of the Gil

MLB | Bryan Hoch : Some well-deserved accolades Thursday for Yankees rookie hurler Luis Gil.
Baseball Digest named the right-handed flamethrower its top American League rookie.
Gil had an outstanding season returning from injury and his 17 starts with either zero or one run allowed tied for the major league lead.
His 171 strikeouts are also the most by a Yankees rookie since Russ Ford whiffed 209 hitters well over a century ago in 1910.
USA Today | Bob Nightengale : Yankees GM Brian Cashman took a bit of umbrage with some of the criticism of how the team played in the World Series , though he readily acknowledges some validity.
I think its fair to say we just played poorly in that series and underperformed in that series, more so than this team was lucky to get into the World Series and how did we even get there, was part of Cashmans response to critiques from Joe Kelly and others.
NJ.com | Jimmy Hascum : File this away under least surprising news ever.
The New York Mets and their deep-pocketed owner Steve Cohen are officially in on Juan Soto.
Cohen has an upcoming meeting with Soto and his agent Scott Boras.
Interestingly, there are thoughts that Soto could sign during the Winter Meetings next month.
Ill believe it when I see it.
The Athletic | Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty ($) : Theres quite a bit going on behind the paywall in this one.
But an interesting nugget relates to the Yankees plan for The Martian.
Jasson Dominguez missed a ton of time this season due to injury and Cashman is not ready to guarantee the young phenom a starting gig for 2025, though Dominguez will definitely be in the mix.
Cashman also expressed that he views Ben Rice as a catcher first, though Rice solely played first base in the Bronx in 2024..
