UFC Vegas 100 star holds astonishing KO stat since glove change ahead of his first main event

This coming Saturday on the history-making 100th Fight Night event at the UFC Apex, Carlos Prates competes in his first main event as he takes on welterweight gatekeeper, Neil Magny.
Since earning a contract on Dana Whites Contender Series in 2023, Carlos Prates has gone on to pick up three incredibly impressive finishes under the UFC banner, making him a fighter to watch in the welterweight division.
Standing across from him this coming Saturday is his toughest test thus far, the veteran, Neil Magny .
Despite coming off a loss to Michael Morales in his last outing, The Haitian Sensation will compete in his fourth UFC main event.
Carlos Prates holds astonishing KO stat following UFC glove change Earlier this year, the UFC announced that they had designed a new glove in an attempt to reduce the amount of eye pokes and lacerations.
They then debuted the new design at UFC 302.
Since then, the gloves have come under huge criticism as the rate of KOs has dropped significantly since the change in design, resulting in fans questioning whether the gloves have their part to play in the fights being lackluster recently.
Data collected by Nate Latshaw shows that throughout this year, in the same number of bouts before the UFC glove change and after the glove change, KOs in the welterweight division are down by 29.1%, the biggest decrease across any division.
Since June, when the new gloves were introduced, there have only been six KOs in the welterweight division from 30 fights.
Astonishingly, the Brazilian, Prates, has accounted for 33% of the KOs in the 170lb division so far this year, and he has the chance to increase that this Saturday.
JONES RESPONDS: Jon Jones issues hilarious response after NBA superstar claimed he could beat Bones in an MMA fight Carlos Prates hopes to be ranked inside the top 10 by 2025 Moving up the welterweight division at a rapid rate, the 31-year-old is hopeful that with a win over Magny this weekend, he can crack the top 15 of the division, and come the end of 2025, he will be inside the top 10.
Prates was scheduled to take on Randy Brown at UFC 309 , but after Brown withdrew, the promotion offered Prates his first UFC main event fight.
I think Randy Brown is an easier fight than Neil Magny, he is much easier money but you know, the main event, we get the bonus to fight in the main event, more money, and also the main event of the biggest show in the world, I think its a better change, Prates said at the media day.
Im gonna win on Saturday and then Im gonna be (in) the ranking(s)...
I want to fight two or three times maximum in 2025.
Probably in Australia and then one or two more times, Prates continued.
IN JEOPARDY: Dustin Poirier offers to step in on late notice to fight either Charles Oliveira or Michael Chandler at UFC 309 amid withdrawal rumors.
