Zach Edey was one of the brightest spots for the Memphis Grizzlies during their 106-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, as the former Purdue Boilermakers center put up a historic performance.

The rookie big man notched 25 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks on 11-for-12 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 from the free-throw line in 29 minutes of action.

According to Drew Hill of the Daily Memphian , Zach Edey became the first rookie to have at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks on 90 percent shooting since Hakeem Olajuwon in 1984.

Ja Morant added 25 points, nine assists, and five rebounds on 10-for-22 shooting, while Jaren Jackson Jr.

and Scotty Pippen Jr.

had 15 and 14 points, respectively, but that wasnt enough for the Memphis Grizzlies to beat the Brooklyn Nets.

To be fair to the Memphis Grizzlies, the team was without Desmond Bane , Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard , John Konchar , and Vince Williams Jr.

due to injuries .

Memphis Grizzlies Zach Edey is the favorite to win NBA ROY The Memphis Grizzlies have a gem in Zach Edey.

The former Purdue center adds depth to their frontcourt because of his length and interior presence, and he should continue to get his opportunities under head coach Taylor Jenkins , making him the favorite to win the Wilt Chamberlain trophy.

According to Odds Shark , Edey is at +490 odds to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award, but his margin for error is small since Stephon Castle (+550), Zaccharie Risacher (+700), and Dalton Knecht (+700) are right behind him.
