Marauders rout Ventura for first win of season

VENTURA The Antelope Valley College mens basketball team rebounded from an opening game loss on Thursday to rout host Ventura 93-61 on Friday at the Ventura Tournament Crossover.

It was a great first win, AVC coach John Taylor said.

We played really well today.

The Marauders (1-1) led 33-3 about 8 minutes into the game.

They shot 55.9% (19-for-34) in the first half and led 56-25 at halftime.

AVC also outrebounded Ventura 38-30.

Malik Larane led the Marauders with 29 points, including 23 in the first half, as he was 3-for-3 from the 3-point line.

He also had five steals.

AVCs Josef Major scored 17 points with seven rebounds, while Mister Burnside recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and point guard Ashton Eckert added five assists and five rebounds.

The Marauders play Saddleback College in the final game of the tournament at noon today.

High School Football Lancaster Baptist 42, Milken 0 LANCASTER The Lancaster Baptist football team finished the regular season with a 42-0 victory over visiting Milken on Thursday at Lancaster Baptist High.

Quarterback Camden Mordh threw three touchdown passes for the Eagles (6-3, 2-2 Heritage League), who finished third in the Heritage League standings.

Two of those touchdown receptions were caught by Ethan Cox, while the other went to Austin Yarborough.

Lancaster Baptists Tiago De Paula Rosa scored on a rushing touchdown, while Sammy Flores also rushed for a score and ran for a two-point conversion.

The Eagles now await the CIF-Southern Section 8-man playoff brackets, which will be announced on Sunday..
