Women's Basketball: MMU Bounces Bears

The Mount Marty University Lancers defeated the Barclay College Bears 90-33in womens basketball action on Friday night.

For Mount Marty, Alexsus Motley totaled 15 points and seven rebounds.

Stevi Falls totaled 12 points, four steals and five assists.

Emma Jarovski finished with 11 points and eight rebounds while Kyra Griese totaled eight points and three steals.

Sidney Thue finished with five points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

Leah Williams finished with nine points.

Maci Nemetz totaled seven points.

For Barclay, Charity Montgomery finished with seven points and three steals.

Mikayla Pugh finished with six points.

Teairra Perry totaled five points and seven rebounds while Amyaha Walker finished with four points and two steals.

In the first quarter, the Lancers were 12-14 with their free throws.

Fallis and Jarovski both totaled seven points.

Thue tallied five points and two steals.

For Barclay, Perry led the Bears with four points.

Vivian Muniz, Montgomery and Walker added two points each in the first quarter.

Mount Marty opened with a strong 8-0 lead including two layups from Fallis, a layup and a free throw from Thue and a free throw from Jarovski.

The Lancers continued with a dominant lead, keeping the Bears to a 21-5 deficit well into the first quarter.

Thue and Motley made one layup each.

Jarovski racked up another four points including one layup and two free throws.

In the first quarter, Barclays Montgomery, Walker and Pugh totaled two points each.

Perry added four free throws for the Bears.

The Lancers closed the first quarter with a 26-10 lead.

Signe Bang opened the second quarter with a three-pointer for the Lancers, while Barclays Pugh responded with a three-pointer of her own to make the score 29-13.

Mount Martys dominant display continued in the second quarter, and they maintained a 54-14lead entering halftime.

The first two quarters, we were able to do a lot of things that we were good at, Mount Marty head coach Allan Bertram said.

Mount Martys Kaela Martinez began the third quarter with a three-pointer while the Lancers continued a secure lead.

Three-pointers from Bang and Nemetz paired with layups from Fallis, Jarovski and Williams allowed the Lancers to create a comfortable cushion.

Barclays Montgomery totaled one layup and two free throws in the third quarter.

Walker and Muniz also contributed to scoring for the Bears.

The biggest thing we talked about at halftime was just the fact that they were able to straight line dribble too much to the paint, Bertram said.

We werent utilizing our gap defensive principles very well, so we really focused on doing that in the second half and made things a lot more difficult for them.

Mount Marty entered the fourth quarter with a 73-24 lead.

A layup from Barclays Lilli Moke began the scoring for the Bears in the fourth quarter.

Kylee Coxs three-pointer and layups from Alyssa Moschell, Eve Zephier, Motley, Williams, and Nemetz allowed Mount Marty to extend their lead as the Lancers closed the game with a final score of 90-33.

I think the cool thing about games like this is everybody got an opportunity to play, Bertram said.

Everybody contributed in some way, which is a really fun thing for us.

Mount Marty, 2-0, faces York University at home on Wednesday.

I think were doing a really good job in transition, but our half-court offense really has to get a lot better, and then defensively, we just got to get a lot more disciplined, Bertram said.

Its going to be our big test for us Wednesday to see where were at..
