STILLWATER Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon has had every chance to walk away from this Cowboys season with his head held high.

He left at least two games with injuries, most notably at BYU when he walked off the field so slowly that it initially appeared he might be done for the season.

Yet, Gordon didnt let that stop him from quite literally leaping to action when the team needed him later that night.

Hes not going to let a disappointing season or the words of a broadcaster convince him to stand aside now.

Because I finish what I start, Gordon said.

You know, my mom always taught me that you finish what you start.

And who would I be to give up on my team, because our season not going how we wanted to go? You know, if that was it, I could have given up last year, but our season was good.

So just cause our season not going how it's supposed to, I'm supposed to give up now? I find that, that's really weird, and the way that people can just sit there and say that is crazy.

But, I mean, they wasted their breath saying it because I'm not giving up on my team.

Big things were expected from him and the rest of the Cowboys (3-5, 0-5 Big 12).

Through eight games, Gordon has carried the ball 135 times for 568 yards and eight touchdowns.

He also has 22 catches for 123 yards and one touchdown.

When it comes to the bond Gordon shares with his teammates, none of those numbers matter.

I just feel like when times get hard, you can't give up, and that's gonna be with anything, Gordon said.

Because at some point we all going to start our own families and everything not gonna go right.

And you're gonna have to be the man for your family.

So I feel like that that's what this season can show us.

You know you gotta show up to work every day no matter what.

Win, lose.

You know you gotta show up to work regardless.

And I feel like that's a huge part of life.

Oklahoma State receiver Brennan Presley responded similarly following Saturdays 38-28 loss at Baylor.

Both players said the message, which it appears theyve taken to heart, came from their head coach.

Coach Gunny tries to, you know, he instills that in us, Gordon said.

And, you know, huge family guy.

So for him to tell us that, I feel like it really means something.

And that's huge, because it's true.

You're gonna start a family one day.

You have to be the rock of the family.

And, I mean, season is not going how we want to, but somebody got to be the rock of the team.

We all got to be the rock.

We all got to stick together, hold it off..
