Big Ten acknowledges one Nebraska play 'incorrectly' handled in loss at Ohio State

The Big Ten on Monday acknowledged a mistake on the most talked-about officiating gaffe from Nebraskas close loss at Ohio State.

Running back Emmett Johnson had appeared to gain a first down on a run near the Ohio State 36-yard line but officials marked him down at the 38 as the clock ticked under one minute left before halftime.

Big Ten chief operating officer Kerry Kenny said in a Monday email to other league officials the sequence was handled incorrectly.

The ball carrier crossed the 37-yard line and a first down should have been awarded to Nebraska, Kenny wrote.

Replay should have stopped the game to review the spot since it involved the line-to-gain.

This was NOT ruled a 1st down for Nebraska...

The play was NOT reviewed.

The clock did NOT stop and the Huskers had to burn their final timeout of the half.

The conference offered no commentary on a slew of other missed calls or no calls from Nebraskas near upset, most going against the visitors.

That included at least one phantom offensive pass interference, another erroneous spot near the OSU goal line the Huskers came up a yard short on fourth down multiple missed holding calls and a lenient sideline warning late against Ohio State coach Ryan Day.

Day should have been charged 15 yards for stepping onto the field and throwing his headset after a targeting call.
