National publication agrees with Mike Elko’s scathing rant on disgraced ex-Texas A&M HC: ‘Auctioneer who masqueraded as a football coach’ | Sporting News

Mike Elko truly ingratiated himself to the Texas A&M fanbase when he ripped disgraced ex-Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher in a fiery postgame rant following TAMUs 38-23 Week 9 rout of LSU .
"This is a real program.
Its not fake," Elko said on October 26.
"Its not a politician running this program, talking fast and BSing everybody.
This is a real program." Not only did any Texas A&M fan who watched their program waste $77 million to pay Fisher not to coach agree but so did USA Todays Blake Toppmeyer who had a few euphemisms to adequately flame the former head coach.
Jimbo Fisher talked a mile a minute throughout six disappointing seasons at Texas A&M.
He spewed more hot air than half the folks on Capitol Hill, Toppmeyer wrote.
Throughout Fishers tenure as Aggies head coach, he portrayed a fast-talking, wheeling-and-dealing auctioneer who masqueraded as a football coach.
All boots, but no cowboy.
Mike Elko sounds different.
More importantly, his Aggies play differently.
They block, and they tackle, and they protect the football, and theyre resilient.
Now thats a lede.
Fishers lead is one Elko has no plans on following.
And by explicitly making an enemy of Fisher, Elko is backing the backbone of TAMU athletics; not honoring a coaching fraternity in which he had a minimal connection to Fisher.
Mike Elko is the leader Texas A&M needs Elko is to Texas A&M what Hugh Freeze has yet to be for Auburn.
Despite the Tigers success on the recruiting trail, the wins havent translated to the field.
Freeze hasnt made Auburn fans forget about Bryan Harsin.
In fact, Freeze and Harsin have the same record through their first 21 games.
Elko already has the Aggies in the thick of the College Football Playoff field through the first two-thirds of the season.
If you want to point at the level of talent leftover from Fisher and Harsin, and how there was much more in College Station when the former left than what was left on the Plains when the latter did, thats fair.
But Elko had to rebuild a lot of TAMUs roster after a transfer portal exodus in the aftermath of Fishers firing.
Hes done great work.
And from the looks of it, hes the guy to lead Texas A&M into the future..
