Klay Thompson grabbed headlines on Thursday night, as he helped the Dallas Mavericks take care of business in the teams 2024-25 NBA season debut.

It was also his first regular-season game for the Mavs, and it was against a divisional rival in the form of Gregg Popovich s San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Playing for a new team after spending his first 11 seasons in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors , Thompson had a little bit of Dubs nostalgia following the Mavericks 120-109 win over the Spurs, as he and fellow ex-Golden State star Harrison Barnes met briefly on the court for a hug.

They were also part of the 2014-15 Warriors squad that won an NBA title.

The Warriors arent just the only common ground for the two players.

Barnes also played for the Mavericks before, as he signed a four-year deal worth $94 million with the team back in 2016.

As for Thompson, his contract with Dallas is a considerably larger one.

Via a sign-and-trade deal involving the Warriors, Thompson inked a three-year, $50 million contract over the summer to become a Maverick and end his lengthy and memorable tenure with Golden State.

Thompson scored 22 points with six 3-pointers in his Mavs debut while Barnes had 17 points.

The Mavericks and the Spurs will meet three more times this season, with the next one scheduled on Nov.

16 in Dallas again.
