Ex-Lakers fan favorite, two time All-Star continues to tease NBA comeback attempt | Sporting News

Nothing can stop determined free agents from attempting NBA comebacks.
Although a former Los Angeles Lakers guard failed to make an opening night roster, he isnt closing the door on a future return to the big leagues.
Opening night, Isaiah Thomas wrote on X/Twitter on Monday.
Cant wait to watch the games tonight.
Ill be right back in real soon.
Thomas appeared in six games for the Phoenix Suns last year but had to begin searching for a new NBA home at the end of the season.
During a September interview with Cronkite News Dylan Ackermann, Thomas expressed interest in finding a stable environment for the next couple of seasons before stepping away from the game for good.
I really just want to play two or three more years and then focus on my kids," Thomas said.
"Thats the ultimate goal and were just going to keep fighting until the end.
Im still at an age where I can still play at a high level.
I always say that I have the same feeling going to the gym now that I did when I was a kid.
I know when that goes away, its time to just try to find something else.
Thomas added that while it may be unusual for an individual to participate in an activity for an exceptionally long period, he will gladly serve as an exception.
Most dont really focus on one single thing that long, Thomas stated.
Ive loved the game of basketball, and its done wonders for my life.
Ive been across the world, I made tons of money around basketball.
I just love it.
I love everything about the game.
Following short stints with the Suns, Sacramento Kings, Boston Celtics, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Thomas joined the Lakers in February of 2018.
Los Angeles finished with a below-average 35-47 during the 2017-18 campaign, but theres no question Thomas had a productive second half of the season.
The fearless 5-foot-9 guard averaged 15.6 points per contest in 17 games, nearly earning him the No.
1 spot in the scoring column.
Thomas bounced around the league after completing Year 7 with the Lakers, but he returned to Los Angeles in 2021 on a 10-day contract.
Unfortunately, the final pick in the 2011 draft only appeared in four contests and averaged 9.3 points per game before receiving the boot from the franchise.
Since 2021, Thomas has been fighting for his NBA life, comprehending that giving up on his mission isnt an option.
The two-time All-Star probably wont regain his 2015-17 scoring form, netting over 20 points per contest with the Celtics.
Still, given the right opportunity, he could be a serviceable bench asset with 26 games of playoff experience on his resume.
