FARGO You dont need to ask any Bison player how long its been since North Dakota State won the Dakota Marker.

Five years.

Five straight losses to South Dakota State.

ADVERTISEMENT It hits even harder for the Lance family.

Living in Marshall, Minnesota, South Dakota State is right in their backyard.

Thats why the Jackrabbits were quick to offer a football scholarship to a young Bryce Lance.

SDSU actually offered first.

Lane said.

And then I got a call ten minutes later from Coach (Randy) Hedberg.

It wasnt a hard decision for sure, but that was crazy.

It wasnt a hard decision for Bryce, thanks to his older brothers Treys two and a half years in Fargo.

Trey had a historic 2019 season quarterbacking the Bison offense to an unbeaten 16-0 season and a national championship.

On top of that, Trey won the Walter Payton Award as a true freshman, something thats never happened in the history of FCS.

Honestly I felt like I had my mind made up with everything I knew about NDSU, but SDSU recruited me pretty hard.

said Bryce.

Bryce has had his coming out party in 2024.

After three years of languishing on the scout team and the sidelines, hes become NDSUs top receiving target.

Lance has 35 receptions for 418 yards and five touchdowns, including a streak of a touchdown in five straight games (theres that number again).

ADVERTISEMENT I've always had confidence in myself.

That kept me going, it propelled me forward, just the faith in myself took me a long way.

Lance added the offseason workouts with quarterback Cam Miller meant just as much.

This summer, Cam poured confidence into me.

Thats a testament to him, how much belief he has in me.

The last time the Bison beat the Jacks in 2019, Trey was at center stage.

He threw a touchdown and ran for 86 yards in the Bison win, the same day College Gameday was there.

Bryce was supposed to be at the game, but he was busy playing for Marshall High School at the time.

I was supposed to go in 2019.

I checked in at halftime.

This rivalry is huge with Brookings being just 45 minutes away from Marshall, I've always known about it.

Now to be a part of it is super special.

Five years later, the original number five in the Lance family is ready to return the favor.

Trey will be in Fargo Saturday night, thanks to his NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys being on a bye week.

ADVERTISEMENT This will mark the first time Trey has seen Bryce play in person in a Bison uniform.

It means the world to me.

I told him you better come, what else do you have to do? But just to know my brother is going to be in the stands is definitely a benefit for sure.

Bryce added hes anxious to show Trey that the number five is still making plays.

Definitely excited to show what number five is doing right now..
