Lontime NHL veteran announces retirement from the league

Veteran forward Brad Malone is retiring from the National Hockey League after nine seasons.

Malone, 35, officially announced his retirement after a 9-year playing career, playing for the Colorado Avalanche , Carolina Hurricanes & Edmonton Oilers .

Brad Malone posted a statement on social media thanking the Oilers for his time with the organization, having spent the last seven seasons with the club, both in the NHL and in the AHL as captain of the Oilers affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors Malone is apart of a deep hockey family with NHL ties.

His father Jim was a first round pick of the New York Rangers in 1980.

His uncle Greg is a longtime NHL veteran who won two Stanley Cups as a scout with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

His cousin Ryan Malone, who was an assistant captain with Pittsburgh and played 11 seasons.

Brad Malone played nine seasons with the Avalanche, Hurricanes & Oilers, having 14 goals and 32 points in 218 career NHL games.

Malone was hired by the Oshawa Generals as a player development coach after his retirement.
