College Roundup: Titans' Hoover, Wilmington grad, in the lead at PAC Golf Championships

VIENNA, Ohio Westminster College freshman (Wilmington High) and sophomore Katie Rose Rankin currently sit at No.
1 and No.
2 after Mondays opening round of the PAC Womens Golf Championships.
Westminster, winners of six-straight PAC titles, leads the nine-team field going into Tuesdays second round.
The PACs 36-hole fall event is once again being hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio Monday and Tuesday.
The women are playing two rounds at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna.
Westminster tops the field with a team score of 338.
Washington & Jefferson College is four strokes back (342).
Hoover fired a seven-over 80 while Rankin shot an eight-over 81.
Freshman (Hickory High) is 20th (94) in the 45-player field.

Westminster is 20 strokes off the lead with a team score of 315.
Alleghenys Carter Hassenplug, the two-time defending PAC Player of the Year, paces the 45-player event with a five-under 67.
W&Js Luke Melisko is second with a three-under 69.
Westminster sophomore Tyler Hager is tied with Alleghenys Zach Melzar for seventh after carding a four-over 76.
GROVE CITY The Presidents Athletic Conference honored four Grove City College fall sports athletes with weekly awards Monday afternoon in recognition of their respective performances last week.
The Grove City football and womens volleyball teams each produced two honorees.
In football, junior linebacker Ben Bladel earned Defensive Player of the Week in the league while senior punter Dan Berube captured Special Teams Player of the Week.
Sophomore middle blocker Kendra Klusch secured Offensive Player of the Week in womens volleyball while sophomore libero Julia Fisher picked up the conferences Defensive Player of the Week award.
Bladel and Berube helped Grove City earn a 17-10 home victory Saturday at Robert E.
Thorn Field over No.
10 Carnegie Mellon.
Bladel recorded a sack, forced fumble and three tackles for loss Saturday.
His forced fumble in the end zone resulted in junior safety (Slippery Rock High) recovering the ball to give Grove City a 17-3 lead in the third quarter.
Bladels sack for an 11-yard loss on 3rd and 10 from the Grove City 16 helped preserve the Wolverines 17-10 lead with four minutes remaining in the game.
He finished with six total tackles while helping Grove City hold Carnegie Mellon to minus-9 rushing yards.
Berube averaged 46.2 yards per punt on five kicks Saturday against Carnegie Mellon, including the first two 50-yard punts of his career.
His career-long 59-yard punt in the third quarter pinned the Tartans at the 3.
That led to a Grove City defensive touchdown on the next scrimmage play.
Berubes final punt of the day, a 45-yard boot, forced Carnegie Mellon to start a potential game-tying drive from its own 26 with 3:05 left.
Klusch and Fisher helped the Grove City volleyball team to a pair of five-set wins on the road last week in conference play.
Last Wednesday night at Bethany, Klusch had 13 kills on 26 attempts, good for a .423 hitting percentage.
She also had five blocks.
Three days later, in a reverse sweep win at Saint Vincent, Klusch again had 13 kills and only two errors on 26 attempts for another .423 hitting mark.
She again posted five blocks.
For the week, Klusch averaged 2.60 kills and 1.00 blocks per set.
She had a .423 hitting percentage in the two wins and now currently ranks second in the conference with a .341 hitting percentage on the season.
Fisher averaged 8.20 digs per set in last weeks victories.
She recorded a season-high 37 digs Wednesday night at Bethany.
Saturday at Saint Vincent, she surpassed that season best by racking up 45 digs in the five-set triumph.
Freshman Brite Cannon, a two-way standout with the Westminster College football program, was honored as the PAC Newcomer of the Week Monday afternoon.
Cannon scored a special teams touchdown for the third-straight week with a 57-yard punt return in Saturdays 49-7 win at Bethany College.
He also scored on a 61-yard shovel pass.
Cannon finished with four catches for 105 yards and also had a seven-yard first quarter rush.
He added three tackles (3 solo), a tackle for loss and forced a fumble on a dropped snap by punter Landon Bailey early in the third that led to a recovery in the end zone for a touchdown by junior running back Gavin Greaves.
Cannon has scored four touchdowns this season for the Titans..
