College football: Webb kicking off for Tigers

Staff report DOYLESTOWN, Pa.
Sports fans in Salisbury are more interested in Hampden-Sydney football than theyve ever been.
Hampden-Sydney won its opener on the road in Pennsylvania on Saturday, trouncing Delaware Valley 38-9.
Former Salisbury High receiver, kicker, punter and quarterback Hank Webb will be focusing on kicking and punting duties and academics for the H-S Tigers.
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound freshman had the honor of getting the season started with the opening kickoff, as the Tigers won the toss and deferred to the second half.
Webbs first kickoff trickled out of bounds on the 1-yard line, so Delaware Valley got a break and got to start at the 35.
Trending Cyclist killed in Tuesday auto collision Big fish, small pond Webb stayed busy kicking off after five Hampden-Sydney touchdowns and a field goal.
He averaged 61.7 yards on his kickoffs and put three in the end zone for touchbacks.
Hampden-Sydney has an experienced punter/kicker, who is in his third season on the roster.
He averaged 38.9 yards per punt on Saturday, went 4-for-4 on PATs (another kicker booted one PAT) and kicked a 24-yard field goal.
There were no missed kicks.
Its not known yet whether or not Webb might be the guy who gets the call if a long-range field goal attempt is contemplated.
There probably will come a day when Webb gets to handle all the facets of kicking chores for the Tigers as he did in high school, but college football, even at the D3 level, is all about putting in the work, being ready when your opportunity comes and producing when it does.
For now, Webbs kickoff ability has him on the travel roster, and thats a start..
