Two Indiana State Sycamores received Missouri Valley Football Conference Player of the Week honors Monday defensive lineman Logan Wilson as top defender and wide receiver Larry Stephens III as the top newcomer.It's the first MVFC weekly recognition for both, and the third and fourth weekly honors for the team this season.In the Sycamores' 38-14 victory on Saturday at Memorial Stadium over Eastern Illinois, Wilson recorded nine tackles, including three tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks, and a batted-down pass at the line of scrimmage.
Stephens hauled in a game-high five passes for 67 yards and his first touchdown.The Sycamores (2-0) are back in action on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
at Indiana.College men's soccer SMWC forward RSC honoree Saint Mary-of-the-Woods junior forward Jaime Gayol Pertierra led the Pomeroys to back-to-back road victories and earned River States Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors Monday.Pertierra scored a hat trick in the Pomeroys 82 win at Calumet College of St.
Joseph.
He converted a penalty kick and finished a perfect shooting day with four shots on frame and three goals, securing the team's first win of the season.The Pomeroys took a record of 2-4-0 into Tuesday's match at Olivet Nazarene.College volleyball Pomeroys RSC Players of the Week Saint Mary-of-the-Woods' Karla Melendez was named the River States Confererence Attacker of the Week on Monday, while Leishmarie Virella earned RSC Defender of the Week for the second consecutive week.Melendez led SMWC with 48 kills, 28 digs, five blocks and six assists across a four-match swing.
Virella, a libero, had 53 digs and a .942 reception percentage on 69 attempts.With a 151 overall record, the Pomeroys now have the most wins in the NAIA this season going into Tuesday's match at Oakland City.College women's golf ISU places 13th At Normal, Ill., Indiana State finished 13th in the 16-team, 90-plus-golfer field at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational last weekend to open the Sycamores' fall season.ISU carded a team score of 943 at 79 over par.Sycamore Sophia Florek placed 23rd overall shooting a personal-best 227, with rounds of 73, 76 and 79.
ISU's Yang Tai carded a 238 (79-81-78), followed by Rosalie DiNunzio (76-82-83) and Keira Brazeau (76-82-83) tied in the tournament with a 241.
DiNunzio shot four-over in the first round, and Brazeau debuted in the Sycamore lineup with an 80.
Gabby Cone's second round ended at six-over, shooting 12 pars in the round (91-78-85).Indiana State plays next on Sept.
29-30 at the Butler Fall Invitational.
Bussing tops in RSC Saint Mary-of-the-Woods' Brooklee Bussing earned River States Conference Golfer of the Week honors after her performance at last weekend's rain-shortened Lawrence Tech Invitational.Bussing fired rounds of 79 and 81 for a 160 to tie for fifth place individually.
Pomeroys take sixth At West Lafayette, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods finished sixth overall at the Bob Rohrman Invitational, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University at Purdue University, carding a three-round total of 1,039.Indiana Wesleyans Addison Meadows captured medalist honors with a 230 on rounds of 72, 80 and 78.
Marian University claimed the team championship with a 943.
Brooklee Bussing paced the Pomeroys with a tie for 17th, finishing at 246 (818679).

The first flight winners were Brown and Ellis with 131, while the second flight went to Frank Wall and Sam Peoples with a 141.Next up is the Wabash Valley Classic starting the weekend of September 20-21..
