Warriors trade idea reunites Stephen Curry with original splash brother, four-time NBA champion

The unresolved Jonathan Kuminga in the Bay has been the story of the Golden State Warriors unproductive offseason.

However, assuming the disgruntled forward returns to the Warriors for at least the first half of the 2025-26 season, Sports Illustrateds Ryan Shea believes theres a move that could catapult the franchise into championship contention.

Shea created a mock trade that would send Buddy Hield and Trayce Jackson-Davis to the Mavericks for Stephen Currys original splash brother and four-time NBA champion ex-teammate.

The biggest beneficiary of this trade is Klay Thompson, Shea wrote last Thursday.

"He reunites with the core of Steph Curry and Draymond Green, who won four titles together from 2015 to 2022." Although Klay isnt the player he once was, now entering his age-35 season, he still has plenty left in the tank.

His 39.1% three-point percentage remains above the league average.

Combine that with the chemistry he already has with Steph and Dray, and he should see a boost in numbers across the board.

Thompson was a stud with the Warriors during his 13-year run with the franchise.

Even when opponents were up for the challenge of chasing Thompson around the hardwood and crowding his space as soon as he received the ball, his aesthetically pleasing mechanics made it near impossible to throw him off his rhythm.

Although Thompsons 2024-25 campaign with the Mavericks is considered a down year for the future Hall of Famer, he still managed to put up respectable numbers in Year 14.

The former first-round pick averaged 14.0 points on 41.2% field goal shooting and 39.1% three-point shooting in 72 contests.

If the Warriors want to provide Curry with an upper-echelon perimeter shooter whos no stranger to winning championships, theyll consider orchestrating a reunion with Thompson as soon as possible.
