MM 9.1: Maryland volleyball drops back-to-back games to open season

Maryland volleyballs season-opening road trip to North Carolina didnt exactly go to plan.The Terps lost both Friday and Saturday to Coastal Carolina and North Carolina, 3-2 and 3-1, respectively.

Both games took place on Coastal Carolinas campus.

Maryland didnt have a clear top attacker over the weekend, with five players recording over 10 kills in a game and none doing so twice.

Lilly Wagner led the Terps in assists against Coastal Carolina but did not play against the Tar Heels.This marks Marylands first 0-2 start to nonconference play since 2011, when it was still a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The only other 0-2 season start under head coach Adam Hughes came during the pandemic-shortened spring 2021 season, when the Terps only faced Big Ten opponents.The Terps now move on to a weekend tripleheader in Baltimore, taking on Old Dominion Friday, William & Mary Saturday and UMBC Sunday.In other newsMaryland football trounced Florida Atlantic, 39-7, in freshman quarterback Malik Washingtons college debut.
