SAN FRANCISCO The Orioles season likely ended much earlier than the trade deadline, but the front offices fire sale of nine players signaled it was officially over. The Orioles have struggled without those players, posting an 11-17 record in August to enter September with a 61-76 record.

Meanwhile, some of the players the Orioles traded away are excelling with their new clubs, while others are struggling.

After losing two of three to the Giants, the Orioles head to San Diego for a three-game series Monday against a Padres team with familiar faces Ryan OHearn and Ramon Laureano.Love them both, Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said.

[OHearn] was a guy that came to the Orioles and rejuvenated his career.

A lot of coaches are tied to him because of that.

We loved the man.

He helped his team get in the playoffs a couple years and was a leader in the clubhouse.

Just a guy that is just so loved.Laureano ...

he was just so different, his leadership style and how he did things, but guys gravitated towards him and, obviously, he put up All-Star caliber numbers while he was with us.Rather than assessing the Orioles past week, this Orioles reset is dedicated to those players no longer with Baltimore.Whos been good?Outfielder Ramon Laureano, Padres: No team can be happier with how their former Oriole has performed than the Padres with Laureano.

In Baltimore, Laureano went from a short-side platoon player to a middle-of-the-order bat worthy of being traded at the deadline for a haul of prospects.

Laureano has been even better with the Padres, hitting .305 with a .935 OPS and seven homers in 28 games.

Hes come up big in clutch moments, including a walk-off hit Aug.

10.

Laureano, who has a club option for 2026, was traded to San Diego alongside OHearn.First baseman Ryan OHearn, Padres: Its no surprise that OHearn has continued his production in San Diego.

The lefty slugger has been a wildly consistent hitter since 2023 when he arrived in Baltimore as a castoff from Kansas City.

OHearn is hitting .259 with a .751 OPS with his new club, including multiple homers in high-leverage moments.

The Orioles received six prospects for OHearn and Laureano.Infielder Ramon Urias, Astros: From 2021 through 2025, Urias was one of the Orioles most consistent players, posting league average offense numbers with solid defense.

Hes done the same with the Astros, hitting .286 with a .762 OPS.

He also spoiled Brandon Youngs perfect game bid and hit a walk-off fielders choice to hand the Orioles a loss in mid-August.

Baltimore got pitching prospect Twine Palmer for Urias.Relief pitcher Gregory Soto, Mets: When Baltimore acquired Soto at last years deadline, his start to his Orioles career was disastrous, allowing 12 base runners and eight runs in his first 1 1/3 innings.

Hes been much better with the Mets.

The left-hander has pitched to a 1.42 ERA in 14 outings with his new club.

The Orioles received two pitching prospects for Soto.Starting pitcher Charlie Morton, Tigers: In five starts for the Detroit Tigers, Morton has largely been the same pitcher he was during his final three months in Baltimore.

After his disastrous opening month, the 41-year-old pitched to a 3.98 ERA with the Orioles.

With the American League Central-leading Tigers, Morton has posted a 4.61 ERA with an impressive 30.5% strikeout rate.

A legendary postseason performer, Morton could have the chance to add even more to that resume this October.

The Orioles received left-handed pitching prospect Micah Ashman for Morton.Who hasnt? In 24 games for the Mets, Cedric Mullins, the longtime Orioles center fielder, has hit .203 with a .620 OPS.

(Nick Wass/AP)Outfielder Cedric Mullins, Mets: The Mets likely didnt acquire Mullins at the deadline hoping for massive offensive production, instead hoping the veteran would provide steady center field defense and continue his reputation as a clutch hitter in October.

In 24 games for the Mets, the longtime Orioles center fielder has hit .203 with a .620 OPS.

The Orioles got three pitching prospects, all relievers, for Mullins.Relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez, Blue Jays: In the two months leading up to the trade deadline, Dominguez was one of the best relief pitchers in MLB with a 1.14 ERA.

He hasnt been nearly as good with the Blue Jays.

Dominguez has been worth minus-0.4 wins above replacement by Baseball-References estimation while posting a 3.86 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.

Baltimore got pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown for Dominguez.Relief pitcher Bryan Baker, Rays: The first player to be traded, Bakers departure signaled the beginning of the fire sale about three weeks before the deadline.

His start with Tampa Bay didnt go well, allowing three runs in one inning to earn the loss.

Overall, his numbers with the Rays arent good (4.82 ERA), but hes been much better recently with a 1.50 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 12 innings in August.

The Orioles received the No.

37 overall pick in the 2025 draft, which was used to select high school outfielder Slater de Brun.Relief pitcher Andrew Kittredge, Cubs: The righty reliever was one of four players with team control through 2026 traded by the Orioles ahead of the deadline.

Kittredge was solid in Baltimore after missing the first two months with a knee injury (3.45 ERA), but hes been a little worse for Chicago (4.50 ERA), despite throwing an immaculate inning in early August.

The Orioles got 17-year-old shortstop Wilfri De La Cruz for Kittredge.Whats next?Active rosters expanded from 26 to 28 on Monday, and pitcher Albert Suarez is expected to be one of the two players brought up.

Suarezs season was derailed by a shoulder muscle injury he suffered during the opening series of the season.

He will be a bulk reliever in September, a role he could also fill in 2026.

Jorge Mateo likely wont be added to the roster until later this week, meaning the Orioles have to choose a different position player to call up Monday.Against the Padres, Kyle Bradish and Cade Povich are scheduled to start the series opener and finale.

Tyler Wells is expected to start Tuesday for his season debut after missing the past 16 months with an elbow injury that required surgery to repair. On the farmThe Orioles have several players in Triple-A who are Rule 5 eligible for the first time in December meaning they must be added to the 40-man roster by then or be subject to being selected by another team.

Some teams out of playoff contention choose to add these players to the 40-man roster and promote them to see if theyre worthy of protecting from the Rule 5 draft.Starting pitcher Cameron Weston, outfielder Jud Fabian and reliever Anthony Nunez are the most notable names among this group.

Weston has a 5.01 ERA in 118 2/3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk this season.

Fabian, who earlier this year was considered a prospect on the same level as Beavers, has drastically cut his strikeout rate, but hes hitting .199 with a .710 OPS this season for the Tides.

Nunez, one of three pitching prospects acquired from the Mets in the Cedric Mullins trade, has a 4.15 ERA and 10 strikeouts across 8 2/3 innings for Norfolk.

With Wells, Albert Suarez and Jorge Mateo all approaching returns, it doesnt seem likely that Weston, Fabian or Nunez will make their way to Baltimore in September.Extra innings Ryan Mountcastle has been one of the Orioles best hitters since he came back from the injured list Aug.

8.

Mountcastle, who was hitting .246 with a .628 OPS before a strained hamstring landed him on the 60-day IL, has posted a .305 batting average and an .812 OPS since his return.

Entering Thursday, Jackson Holliday was engrossed in the worst slump of a season thats largely been a positive for the 21-year-old.

He was hitless in his past 15 at-bats, 3 for his last 30 and 13-for-89 (.146 average) in August.

In four games since, the leadoff hitter has reached base a whopping 12 times with six hits and six walks.

The race for Most Valuable Oriole is heating up.

Gunnar Henderson leads the Orioles in virtually every offensive category.

But Trevor Rogers, who delivered another gem in Saturdays win, now leads the Orioles in Baseball-References wins above replacements with 5.0 ahead of Hendersons 4.3 entering Sunday.

Rogers 1.39 ERA through 14 starts is the majors best since his season debut May 24.Have a news tip? Contact Jacob Calvin Meyer at [email protected], 410-332-6200 and x.com/JCalvinMeyer..
