Toronto journalist questions Mitch Marner’s harassment story

The story of Mitch Marner and the Maple Leafs really came to a head: booed after the Leafs Game 7 loss to the Panthers, Marner ultimately opted to sign with the Vegas Golden Knights, who had his rights in exchange for Nicholas Roy.
The forwards decision is understandable; Toronto is not an easy place to play, especially for a star with a lot of pressure and often very intense fans.
However, we learned on Friday that in Marners case , the fans had really gone too far.
In an interview, the Markham native said that angry fans threw objects onto his field, tried to enter his home and made death threats to the point that he feared for his familys safety and had to hire a security team.
He no longer even felt safe walking his dog with his family.
For Marner, this would have been the last straw, and ultimately the reason for his decision to leave the Leafs [content-ads].
However, Steve Simmons, in an article published in the Toronto Sun , questions this version of events.
According to the journalist, Marner and his agent Darren Ferris have greatly exaggerated the situation.
The alleged harassment of the player, particularly on social networks, is similar to what we see with other sports stars, and the Maple Leafs security team, which handles this type of situation, looked into the matter and saw nothing to worry about.
Several fans also questioned Marners version on social networks.
BTW, the Dog walking story wasnt expanded on by Marner, but CJ had mentioned it previously: Apparently a fan screamed at him while walking his dog why he hadnt signed yet.
Sorry, thats not a threat or a big deal.
Maybe thats why Mitch didnt go into detail.
It wasnt a big...- Edna Garrett (@WatchMyReview) August 30, 2025 Grizzo PhD, MD, MD) Grizzo (PhD, MD, BA, MBA, 74 240 IQ) (@mrgrozz) August 31, 2025 Is the forward trying to make Toronto fans swallow the pill of his departure better? If so, I dont think its necessary.
Just from the booing at Game 7, it was pretty clear to everyone that he was done in Toronto.
However, Marner has yet to respond to the reporter, and perhaps hell be able to back up his story when he does.
In short, I think well be hearing a lot more about this story.
