Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

seems to take savage pleasure in beating the New York Yankees, especially on their home field.

Friday night was Guerrero's latest triumph over the Bronx Bombers, as he went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored.

The Blue Jays took the first game of a critical weekend showdown by a comfortable 7-1 margin.

There can be an intimidation factor to playing at Yankee Stadium, but Guerrero has never felt it in the slightest.

With Rafael Devers out of the American League East, Guerrero is now the undisputed No.

1 Yankee killer.

But 16 of those home runs have come at Yankees Stadium, the most the 26-year-old has at any road ballpark.

Manager John Schneider doesn't know exactly why Guerrero is so effective at Yankee Stadium, but he knows it's far beyond good luck at this point.

"He has a little bit of an extra pep of his step, even in batting practice," Schneider said, per Keegan Matheson of MLB .com.

"I think he likes playing here and he's comfortable, whether it's that he sees the ball here better or not.

I don't think that it's a coincidence any more." Guerrero started the party for the Yankees with a bases-empty, two-out single that kicked off a three-run rally in the top of the first inning on Friday.

The Blue Jays led the Yankees by four games at the conclusion of play, and the Boston Red Sox by 4 1/2.

After going deep against soft-tossing lefty Ryan Yarbrough on Friday, Guerrero and the Blue Jays were scheduled to face hard-throwing righty Luis Gil on Saturday at 1:05 p.m.

ET start time.
