Tom Fornelli of CBSSports.com does some of the best and most interesting data work in college football.

He's not doing the fancy advanced metrics that some outlets do, but he always has very cool ways of presenting relatable and informative stats to the average college football reader.

And this time, he's dug up a doozy about Ohio State. He shows that Ohio State's win over Texas was actually the Buckeyes' single-worst offensive game under Ryan Day.

Now, I'm not sure you need fancy stats to say that.

After all, the Buckeyes have only scored less than 20 points four times under Ryan Day.

So the sample size of poor offensive showings to choose from is tiny.Purely by points scored, the worst game was the 2023 Cotton Bowl against Missouri.

Of course, most of the best players opted out of that game, but still.

Even so, the Buckeyes still put up 300 yards in that game and had more explosive plays.

They just couldn't finish drives.

Fornelli makes a great chart showing how poorly the offense ranked in this game relative to other Ryan Day teams.

Also, Ohio State's explosive play rate was by far the lowest of the Ryan Day era (and the second-worst was last year's Cotton Bowl against Texas). The point of all of this, of course, is that the Buckeyes won a game, against the then-No.

1 team in the country, in which its offense was nowhere near as good as it usually is.

The offense will certainly improve from here.Is it also a little bit worrying that Ryan Day's three worst offensive games have come in the last six games? Perhaps.

But those three have been against really good defensive teams, so it's almost expected.

All in all, there are a whole lot more positives than negatives to take from this. This article originally appeared on Buckeyes Wire: CBSSports show Ohio State won its worst offensive game under Ryan Day.
