Cardinals prospect Thomas Saggese collects two hits, RBI for Desert Dogs: Fall League Report
After going hitless in three at-bats on Wednesday for the Glendale Desert Dogs, Cardinals infield prospect Thomas Saggese collected his first two hits and first RBI of the Arizona Fall League on Thursday against the Peoria Javelinas.
In the first inning of Glendales 13-6 win, Saggese lined a double to left field that scored Reds prospect Tyler Callihan from second base for the games first run.
The double from 22-year-old Saggese came on a 2-1 slider that jumped off his bat with a 110.8 mph exit velocity, per Statcast.
Saggese scored later that inning on a double from Reds prospect Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
The 22-year-old Cardinals prospect added a single to his night in the seventh inning when he lined a 1-2 sinker from Mariners prospect Jimmy Joyce to right field.
Saggese, who batted from the two-spot and served as the Desert Dogs designated hitter on Thursday, drew a walk in the second inning of the win and scored a run on a single from Encarnacion-Strand.
Saggese grounded out on a ball with a 102.7 mph exit velocity in the fourth inning and struck out, swinging, in the fifth.
With the two-hit game, Saggese is two-for-seven in two fall league games.
He was one of two Cardinals prospects in Glendales starting lineup against Peoria.

The 20-year-old switch hitter caught all nine innings of Thursdays game.
He went hitless in five at-bats and struck out twice while batting from the seventh spot of Glendales lineup.
Bernal grounded out in three of his at-bats.
