Ohio State Positional Breakdown Series: Wide Receiver

We have made our way to the best group on the Ohio State team and maybe the best position group in the country.
Its been that way for quite some time up there for Brian Hartline and that WR room.
Names like Marvin Harrison Jr, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and more guys that are making quite a bit of money at the next level.
The guy they have leading the way this year makes all of those guys look relatively normal.
Jeremiah Smith is the best wide receiver in college football.
If you are to ask me, hes the best WR Ive seen in a college football uniform, period.
He can do everything you need a WR to do on the outside.
Hes physical, fast, great route runner and has the best hands in the country to go along with it.
If you built a WR in a lab, it would look a whole lot like Jeremiah Smith.
Now, Texas did a great job against this guy last time around, only giving up 1 catch for 3 yards to Smith.
They did tons of bracketing, which means having a cornerback play underneath him with a safety playing over the top.
Ohio State did a great job of getting other guys open and it ended up working out for them, but I can almost promise Smith will not have a 3-yard game in six days.
Texas had a great game plan to limit Jeremiah Smith.
A lot of coverages that kept a safety overtop of him. Many reps were similar to this one.

Carnell Tate is a name Texas fans know well, with him going for 7 catches and 87 yards to lead the Buckeyes.
He would likely be the WR1 on about 95% of college football teams out there and if Texas employs a similar attack vs.
Jeremiah Smith, he could be the main target in Week One.
Carnell Tate is a next in line to be a top WR prospect from Ohio State Hes a sophisticated, dangerous route runner at 63, 191lbs.
Does a great job manipulating leverage to create separation at all three levels of the field.

With only 176 receiving yards in his career, he is relatively unknown, but the talent is very clear.
He fits the mold of an Ohio State slot receiver, being right around the same size as Emeka Egbuka.
He is an incredibly talented route runner, has great speed and is set to take a big step forward this year for the Buckeyes.
Whether or not he can be a 1 for 1 replacement for Egbuka is unknown, but I can promise Inniss will be an important factor for the Buckeye offense.
Brandon Inniss takes his first career catch 58 yards for a touchdown.

Lets start with Quincy Porter, the freshman who is likely to back up Jeremiah Smith.
Former 5-star came into spring camp, and was the talk of Columbus.
Texas likely wont see him consistently on Saturday, but he is someone to watch closely.
Mylan Graham is next, the backup to Carnell Tate, and he is someone Ohio State seems to be very excited about.
He is a plus route runner and will run away from defenders with no problem.
He is likely the 4th WR they would run out there if they wanted to run 10 personnel on Saturday, which is not out of the question.Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate are going to steal the show for the Buckeyes this year, but Mylan Graham is going to be a difference maker for OSU down the line.
....and he's literally WR4 on the team.
Buying stock NOW! This freshman can ball.pic.twitter.com/aNqATB7Qr3 Justin Siejak (@justinsiejak) July 2, 2025Finally, Bryson Rodgers rounds out the WRs that the Texas defense is likely to see on Saturday.
He has had an incredible fall camp by all accounts, and given Inniss inexperience, he could be utilized quite a bit.
He is not the biggest receiver in the world, but is very efficient in and out of breaks and will be a factor for this offense.
The Ohio State WR room reputation precedes itself.
Brian Hartline, the new OC for the Buckeyes, has built unit after unit that is the best in the country and this year is no different.
Jeremiah Smith is as good as you will find in the sport, Carnell Tate is a WR1 playing a WR2 role and then Inniss, Graham, Rodgers and Porter all have unique athleticism that will make life tough for the Texas secondary. This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Smith, Tate and Inniss continue tradition of top WR rooms in Columbus.
