The Phillies say Wheeler has been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and will require additional surgery thats expected to sideline him for six to eight months.
That could threaten his availability for the start of the 2026 season.
The 35-year-old right-hander, who leads the National League with 195 strikeouts and was considered a Cy Young candidate, had surgery Monday to remove a blood clot from his upper right arm.
