Bear Grass Charter School sweeps pair

After a rough start to the season, Bear Grass Charter Schools volleyball team has turned things around.

The Bears knocked off Washington High and Northside, both in straight sets on Aug.

21 and Aug.

26.

Against the Pam Pack, the Bears rolled in set one, claiming a 25-15 victory.

The second one was a close affair, requiring extra time as Bear Grass claimed a 29-27 win.

The home team completed the sweep by winning 25-16 in the third set.

The Bears likewise knocked off Northside in straight sets.

Bear Grass won by counts of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-21.

The consecutive wins moved the Bears to 2-4 on the young season.

Football The Bear Grass Charter School football team rallied from an early deficit to knock off Wayne Christian School 19-12 Friday evening.

The Bears trailed 6-0 at halftime, but the Bears scored 16 points in the third quarter and three in the fourth to secure the win.

Vance Keel led the Bears on the ground, rushing for 164 yards on 17 carries.

Senior Connor Clifton picked up 65 yards on 14 carries.

The Bears completed two passes, one each from Cody Beck and Clifton, for a total of 10 yards.

Defensively, Bear Grass was led by nine tackles from Clifton and seven from fellow senior Blake Jones.

Riley Thomas and Tanner Long added five each, while Keel and Levi Hagen recorded four each.

Senior Jamison Moore connected on a 35-yard field goal for the Bears.

BGCS (1-0) will travel to Northwest Halifax Friday.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Soccer Bear Grass Charter Schools soccer team is off to a 1-2 start for the season.

The Bears defeated Martin County 3-2, but fell to John A.

Holmes of Edenton twice.

The Bears will be back in action today (Thursday) at 4 p.m.
