The Indianapolis Colts just sat Anthony Richardson again, which could lead to a trade with a team that loved his potential just a couple of years ago.

Shane Steichen and the Indianapolis Colts just announced Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback, which could mean one of a few things for Anthony Richardson .

They drafted a quarterback who desperately needs reps, and through both his own struggles to stay healthy and the teams inability to find consistency, those reps still havent materialized.

He has brought the very best out of both Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold , and before that won the Super Bowl as the offensive coordinator of the Rams with Matthew Stafford.

Prior to the 2023 NFL draft, when Kirk Cousins was still the franchise QB in Minnesota, OConnell and the Vikings had made a drastic attempt to trade up so they could land Anthony Richardson.

In early 2024, analyst Brett Kollmann joined the Mina Kimes Show and explained the Vikings love for the Colts quarterback: I dont think people realize how hard the Vikings tried to trade up for Anthony Richardson last year.

The haul that they put on the table was massive .

Like they were going to give away the entire farm, and all the cows, like, all of it.

They were going to give everything.

I dont think people realize how hard the Vikings tried to trade up for Anthony Richardson last year.

Like, the hall that they put on the table was massive.

They were going to give away the entire farm, all of it.

They were going to give everything.

But, it takes two to...

He drew a comparison between the dual-threat ability of the two, but the Vikings ended up trading up just one spot for JJ McCarthy , rather than all the way up for Daniels.

Now, with Anthony Richardson sitting behind Daniel Jones and the Colts complete lack of confidence to put him on the field, OConnell may be paying attention.

Naturally, theyre going to give JJ McCarthy every shot they can to succeed as a franchise quarterback, but if the Colts are willing to move off of their former first-round pick, the Vikings could be one of the teams willing to give him a chance.

If Richardson were to land in Minnesota, he could sit at least a year, perhaps even two, while developing into the quarterback Kevin OConnell felt he could be.

Teams that may be interested in an Anthony Richardson trade The LA Rams immediately spring to mind, given the fast-approaching retirement of Matthew Stafford, and the teams apparent lack of a long-term solution.

The Colts would surely want a kings ransom in return if they were going to deal the QB, but the alternative is to let his contract slowly flame out before he leaves as a free agent anyway.

Unless Indianapolis are only going to start Daniel Jones before putting Richardson back out there for the rest of the season, they should be willing to listen to trade offers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be another option, but Sean McVay and his staff would be one of the best landing spots for Richardson.

He wouldnt need to play for at least the 2025 season, in preparation to potentially take over from Stafford when he hangs it up..
