New Texas A&M head basketball coach Bucky McMillan is looking to land at least three to four prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, which now includes four-star shooting guard Dakari Spear out of The Colony, Texas, who recently placed the Aggies in his top 5 program list, joining Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, and Syracuse.Entering his inaugural campaign, McMillan is focused on the season ahead, but is fully aware that building the program through recruiting is necessary, as opposed to simply relying on the transfer portal to replenish the roster year after year.

However, even though former coach Buzz Williams is having recruiting success with Maryland ahead of his first season, the Aggies struggled to land young prospects during the majority of his six seasons.

McMillan has all the makings to be the next star coach after rebuilding Samford, coupled with his prolific high school coaching career, which resulted in landing 13 players from the transfer portal, including former Southern Illinois star guard Ali Dibba.Spear is an elite scorer who shot 55% from the field during his final season at The Colony HS, averaging 23 points per game and seven rebounds.

This summer, Spear played with Drive Nation on the EYBL Circuit, where he averaged 13.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game and shot 40.7% from the field.

According to Rivals, Spear is the 67th-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 20th-ranked shooting guard, and the 7th-ranked prospect in Texas.NEWS: 4 Dakari Spear is down to five schools, he tells @Rivals.
