Golden State Warriors reportedly hold interest in Pelicans' Trey Murphy

Regardless of how things play out this summer, it would appear that Jonathan Kuminga's tenure with the Golden State Warriors is drawing to a close.

That's why the franchise's reported two-year $45 million contract offer to Kuminga makes sense, as it would allow them to move him mid-season and for another team to decline the team option for the second year and extend him on a multi-year deal.According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, via an August 22 edition of "The Stein Line" Newsletter, one potential trade target for the Warriors would be Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans.

According to Fischer, the Warriors hold a firm interest in the talented forward.Sources say that the Warriors have a strong affinity for Murphy and have made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer, Fischer reported.

Yet sources say that the Pelicans, to be clear, have batted away calls for the 25-year-old, valuing him highly.

The two-way forward will be playing on a contract in 2025-26 at precisely $25 million as desirable as his talent.Murphy just completed his fourth season in the NBA.

He's shown year-on-year improvements in his game, despite being in a difficult situation with the Pelicans.

In 53 outings last season, Murphy averaged 21.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per night, shooting 55.6% from two-point range and 36.1% from deep.

With Draymond Green, Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler all in the final stages of their careers, Murphy could be a solid long-term addition to the roster, while also being able to immediately contribute within Steve Kerr's system.

Of course, convincing the Pelicans to do business won't be easy, but the notion of landing Kuminga as part of the trade would undoubtedly make discussions more palatable.
