Kelton: Burks 'probably' going to get Week 1 start for SSU football

SAVANNAH, Ga.

(WSAV) The Savannah State football team continues preparation for the start of the upcoming 2025 campaign later this month.Head coach Aaron Ketlon tells WSAV, Christian Burks will "probably be" the starter at quarterback for the team's first game of the season.

Burks, the redshirt junior from Bremen, Ga., played in eight games last fall.

He completed over 54 percent of his passes with three interceptions and two touchdowns.Kelton saying he has not seen a lot of separation from the other players competing to be the team's top signal caller.Overall, Kelton has been really impressed with the camaraderie he has seen during the first three weeks of fall camp.

When asked about his top concern headed into the inaugural game of the season, Helton replied, "Health." He says this close to the season he wants his guys as close to 100 percent as possible.He also highlighted some position groups he feels have stood out."We have a really good bunch of guys, Kelton said.

"I think the group that's developing the fastest right now is our receiver corps.

The quarterbacks are doing a great job.

Then our running back group is pretty deep.

Our D-line has always been together.

Those would be the groups that are the closest, I think, right now.Savannah State opens the season at home again.
