New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart put on a show Saturday, completing 14 of his 16 pass attempts for 137 yards and two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) in a 31-12 drubbing of the New York Jets.Despite Dart's second consecutive impressive performance and rapid development, head coach Brian Daboll stands firm: Veteran Russell Wilson is the team's starting quartrerback."Yeah, Russ is our starter and we're going to keep developing Jaxson," he told reporters after the game.

"Jaxson's just got to continue to work to get better, and we got to help him get better."Wilson was also impressive on Saturday, completing four of his seven pass attempts for 108 yards, including an 80-yard moon ball to rookie wide receiver Beaux Collins.

He did toss a red zone interception, but that was a clear miscommunication between him and Collins."Just a little miscommunication.

Ill be better there for him, and just we were on two different pages, I guess, but it was really more so just me really trusting him early," Wilson said.

"I kind of put the ball up right before he moved and, its football.

Good thing is that it happened in the preseason.

We get to see it and talk about it, and that's why you play these games.

You just get better, you learn, and we all work together."After signing a one-year, $10.5 million contract, Wilson understands his role.

He's serving as a bridge to Dart and will spend the season with a rookie nipping at his heels."I think from a leadership standpoint, you want everybody to get great because when you get everybody great, you as a team become great," he said.

"I think that's a huge part to it and I think thats the fun part that I've had on this journey this year so far is just continuing to just love guys up, teach as much as I can, be passionate about it, getting it right as close as we can so that we can all be great."Meanwhile, Dart is patiently awaiting his time and, like Wilson, is embracing his role with the knowledge that his NFL career will start on the sideline."I'm really just focused on each and every day, how can I get better? I said this before, when I first got here, the amount of knowledge in that quarterback room was very humbling," he said.

"I'm just trying to catch up on a lot of information."I want to get on the same level as the guys in my room, so I'm continuing to try to chase that each and every day and just listen.

I have great guys around me, great coaches who have won and done it at the highest level.

So, I just look forward to learning each and every day."If Dart excels again in Week 3 of the preseason or Wilson struggles at all early in the regular season, calls for a quarterback change will grow louder.

But for now, the Giants are committed to their original plan and are tuning out the outside noise. This article originally appeared on Giants Wire: Giants remain committed to Russell Wilson as their starting QB.
