Big 12 football power rankings: Iowa State still No. 1, while Texas Tech, CU Buffs jump to top 5

Iowa State remained on top for the second week in a row, tightening its grip in the latest Big 12 power rankings, while Colorado jumped into the top five for the first time.

Off to the programs best start in 44 years, Iowa State received 12 of a possible 16 first-place votes for 251 points from a panel of media that regularly covers the Big 12.

After debuting at No.

1 for the first time following a Week 5 shutout of Houston, the Cyclones picked up three more first-place votes to outpace BYU, which received three first-place votes and 239 points.

Kansas State was third, followed by Texas Tech (one first-place vote) and Colorado to round out the top five.

Houston, which had been last for the first five weeks of the season, was replaced this week by Kansas.

The Jayhawks have lost five straight games, four by a touchdown or less.

More importantly, the Cougars found a quarterback in Zeon Chriss, who got the start ahead of incumbent Donovan Smith.

Chriss led the Cougars on five scoring drives, including his 71-yard run before halftime.

Thats not good enough for TCU or its fans, who have invested in the sport at the highest level.

With six key players sidelined with injuries, the bye week comes at a good time to get healthy and hit the reset button ahead of the home stretch.

Thats what happened on the road at ASU, when KUs defense conceded touchdowns on each of the Sun Devils last three drives.
