MOORHEAD Minnesota State Moorhead has added a versatile guard with a state championship pedigree to its men's basketball program.

Bismarck Century rising senior Garrett Nissley announced his verbal commitment to the Dragons, he announced Tuesday, Aug.

5, via social media.

The 6-foot-4 Nissley is part of the 2026 recruiting class and has the ability to play point guard or on the wing for the Dragons.

He's the first known commitment for 2026.

MSUM head coach Jason Kemp can't comment on Nissley until he signs.

It was mostly Kemp and his staff and then the vision that they had, and Kemps ability in the short time hes been there already to add a lot of value to the program," Nissley said.

Nissley helped the Patriots earn the North Dakota Division AA state boys basketball championship last March with a 59-50 victory against Fargo Davies in the title game.

Century finished 27-1 overall.

Hes got a high IQ and hes a really good passer and he can shoot the ball," said Century head coach Darin Mattern.

When you go to the defensive end, I think his length defensively will give him flexibility to guard multiple positions.

The Dragons have averaged 25 wins in each of the past three seasons, including a 25-9 overall mark last season.

In the offseason, Kemp took over for Tim Bergstraser, who took the head coaching job at Division I Denver.

It was pretty important to me coming from a winning culture at Century and being deeply rooted in loving to win and hating to lose," Nissley said.

"That was a big thing for me as well.

Nissley averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game during his junior season with the Patriots.

He also made 61 shots from 3-point range, shooting 37% from beyond the arc.

He was named to the Division AA state all-tournament team last March.

Nissley averaged 15.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in three state tournament games.

The most intriguing thing with Garrett is hes a player who can play multiple positions," Mattern said.

"I think he gives a basketball team the flexibility to play the 1 (point guard), 2 (off guard) or 3 (small forward) at the college level.

Nissley is the younger brother of Logan Nissley, a recent Century graduate who is a standout player for the Nebraska women's basketball program..
