Evan Mobley was the Defensive Player of the Year last season, but he could be aiming for an even bigger accolade next season.

Evan Mobley has been one of the best homegrown players in Cleveland Cavaliers history.

Not since LeBron James and Kyrie Irving have the Cavs drafted and developed a player this well.

Despite some trade rumors, the Cavaliers are committed to Mobley and building around him in the years to come.

In recent years, Mobley has earned comparisons to Giannis Antetokounmpo .

Last season, he proved why those comparisons were apt.

Much like Giannis in 2020, Mobley won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award for the 2024-25 NBA season.

But could he win another individual accolade that Giannis Antetokounmpo earned that season? A fan asked Mobley that question, and he stood firm about his chances.

Evan Mobley says he can definitely win MVP before 2027 A fan approached Evan Mobley during a public outing.

The young fan shared a voice note from a friend in 2022, who predicted that Evan Mobley would win MVP by the 2026-27 NBA season.

When the fan asked Mobley his thoughts about the prediction, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year said he could win the award.

I think I can do that.

That can definitely be true.

Mobley undoubtedly has the talent to win the MVP award.

And he showed this season he can play a star-level role with one of the best teams in the NBA.

But Mobley isnt the offensive engine of the Cavaliers.

While his offensive numbers arent bad by any means, they arent quite at the level to win the MVP award.

Although, unlike most teams, you could argue that the Cavaliers didnt have much to change.

The Cavaliers were the best team in the East last season and had the second-best record in the NBA after the Oklahoma City Thunder .

While their second-round exit to the Indiana Pacers was disappointing, the loss came down to ill-timed injuries and an overall matchup disadvantage.

But now, with the Pacers, along with the Boston Celtics , out of title contention next season due to injuries to Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum , the Cavaliers have a strong advantage in the Eastern Conference.

Now, the Cavaliers have to overcome the New York Knicks , along with the incoming challenge of the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic , who, at this point, are unknown commodities.
