Mets Morning News: Damned if you send him, damned if you don’t

Following a three-game sweep against the Guardians in which the Mets were a big blob of nothingin the midst of a much lengthier stretch of games in which the Mets have been a big blob of nothinga new series began last night in Milwaukee against the red-hot Brewers, and the Mets continued to be a big blob of nothing.
Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to solo homers by Juan Soto and Starling Marte, a disastrous fifth inning in which the Mets made two errors, Kodai Senga surrendered a two-run homer to Brice Turang, and Brooks Raley hit a batter with a pitch with the bases loaded left them in a 3-2 hole.
As has been the case in so many games during this truly heinous stretch, the batsoutside of those two early solo homerslooked utterly lifeless against Brandon Woodruff and the Brewers pitching staff.
But wait! With two outs in the ninth, Marte hit a double to put the tying run in scoring position, and Jeff McNeil then hit a single to center.
Just a few days after there was some heated debate over whether third base coach Mike Sarbaugh was wrong to hold the potential winning run at third in a tie game in the ninth (a runner who did not end up coming around to score), this time he sent Marte, and a perfect throw from Blake Perkins nailed him at home plate to end the game and give the Mets their fifth-straight loss.
