Drew Gilbert to make MLB debut with Giants

A former Vol will make his Major League Baseball debut.Former Tennessee outfielder Drew Gilbert was called up to the Giants from the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats on Friday.
He will make his MLB debut in the Giants series versus Washington.His promotion is after one week the Giants acquired him and former Vol Blade Tidwell from the Mets, in exchange for relief pitcher Tyler Rogers.The Giants are the third organization Gilbert has played for in his professional baseball career.
He was selected in the first-round of the 2022 MLB draft by the Astros with the No.
28 overall pick.
The former Vol was traded to the Mets in 2023.Gilbert will join 11 other former Vols under the eighth-year head coach Tony Vitello who reached MLB: Garrett Crochet, Chase Silseth, Ben Joyce, Andre Lipcius, Trey Lipscomb, Jordan Beck, Seth Halvorsen, Chase Dollander, Blade Tidwell, Christian Moore and Chase Burns.Gilbert appeared in 58 games during his final season at Tennessee in 2022, totaling 11 home runs, 70 RBIs, 60 runs, 72 hits, 21 doubles, four triples, 33 walks and four stolen bases.Tennessee won the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament championships in 2022.This article originally appeared on Vols Wire: Former Vol to make MLB debut with Giants.
