Golden State Warriors target ‘best remaining free agent’ as Jonathan Kuminga replacement

The Golden State Warriors are interested in signing a player who was dubbed the best remaining free agent by an NBA analyst.
The Warriors are the only team yet to sign or re-sign a player in the NBA this offseason.
Its August, and they still havent made a move.
Thats largely because of an ongoing contract saga with Jonathan Kuminga , where both sides are locked in a stalemate.
Kuminga wants to move on , according to reports.
He believes the Warriors stunted his growth as a player.
The young talent rejected Golden States offer of $45 million over two years.
The Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns are reportedly interested in Kuminga .
They would have to wait until next summer to sign him, though.
Neither team has been able to work out a sign-and-trade with the Warriors.
However, another option has recently emerged.
Golden State Warriors show interest in Josh Giddey through a Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade The Warriors have contacted Josh Giddeys representation about the possibility of signing him from the Chicago Bulls .
Giddey is the best remaining free agent according to NBA Insider Brett Seigel of ClutchPoints .
NBA Insider Jake Fischer said on BleacherReport , I can confirm there have been multiple teams that have reached out to Josh Giddeys representation about having interest in Josh Giddey.
Golden State is one of them.
Golden State would be interested, depending on how the machinations could go, in some type of Josh Giddey Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, to my understanding.
The Warriors are reportedly interested in Josh Giddey and have reached out to his camp This comes after the Bulls have been unwilling to meet Giddey's $30M/yr contract desire amidst his restricted free agency situation Giddey averaged 14.6 PPG, 8.1 RPG & 7.2 APG in 70...
pic.twitter.com/K7fnTNmVo8 It would be an incredible return for the Warriors.
They have been unable to agree on a trade for Kuminga due to a desire to hold on to Moses Moody and Buddy Hield.
The Bulls are stuck in Giddeys contract negotiations , since he is a restricted free agent whom they are unwilling to meet the contract demands of.
Giddey is seeking $30 million per year , following his average of 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists for the Bulls last season.
Kuminga reportedly wants around $27 million per year , but his main sticking point is the length of his contract.
The salaries match if the Bulls and Warriors were doing a straight swap.
The Warriors interest in Giddey dates back to before he was drafted.
Golden State Warriors were going to draft Josh Giddey in 2021 In the year they drafted Kuminga, the Warriors planned to take Giddey in the NBA Draft.
Fischer said that their 2021 first-round lottery pick was going to be spent on either player.
He explained, The Warriors were prepared on draft night, way back when in 2021, for Jonathan Kuminga to go number six to Oklahoma City, and they were ready to take Josh Giddey number seven.
The order of course was flipped, and Giddey went to OKC, and the Warriors happily took Kuminga.
There was very much a world where the Warriors would have taken Josh Giddey at number seven if Kuminga was off the board.
Kuminga and the Warriors relationship has deteriorated over the last year.
He struggled for playing time on the back end of the season.
He only played a significant role with the team once Steph Curry was injured in the playoffs.
Both sides are in need of a fresh start.
The ability to bring in a talent like Giddey is a substantial return for the Warriors.
The Kings and Suns have leverage over Golden State in Kuminga trade talks, since its known that the Warriors want to move on.
That leverage isnt shared with the Bulls.
They are stuck in the same situation.
The playmaking of Giddey, most likely in the Warriors second unit, could be a key weapon in the hunt for Currys fifth NBA title.
